Halloween has never been something we have partaken in, it's something I never did as a kid & it's been pretty easy to avoid up until now, but we got home from swimming lessons this afternoon to find all the boys friends dressed up outside ready to go trick or treating.
The boys pleaded to go & said they wanted to collect things which I really hoped they wouldn't of as it's just not food we eat not only for allergy reasons, but they both told me knew they couldn't actually eat any of it they just wanted to do what their friends where doing.
They had a great time with their friends & met more of our neighbourhood kids ( & boy do we have lots of kids in our community!!!) then proceeded to give all the things they collected bar the glow stick to the kids across the street when we got home.
I've made a conscious decision to raise my kids the way I do, but also realise as they get older & outside influences are huge I need to equip them with confidence to make the right choices which 9 times out of 10 they do, so what I am instilling in them must be sinking in!
How do you tackle Halloween?
My view of it after tonight has changed to a degree.
The boys have asked if next year we can have glow sticks & stickers etc to hand out as opposed to "candy" so that other kids like them don't miss as out too.
This parenting gig sure has it's challenges, whilst we are arming our kids with the skills they need for life, they are also teaching us daily to let go, and look at things from a different angle.
